Jason Hesslein is currently in his first year teaching 6th grade Choir in Magnolia ISD. He received his Music Education degree at Sam Houston State University, where he sang in the Chorale for 5 years, as well as early music groups and other various singing ensembles. Jason’s musical background is a bit of a mixed bag, starting with piano, jazz and instrumental improvisation, to singing in barbershop quartets and choruses, to studying voice and opera at a vocal intensive in Italy during the summer of 2016. Jason has competed in singing competitions such as NATS and the SHSU Annual Art Song Competition. In addition to singing in Avanzare, he also sings in the choir at Wildwood UMC as a choral intern, and has done so for the last 5 years. In his free time, Jason enjoys hiking and camping in different state parks around TX, going to concerts and festivals, and spending quality time with his girlfriend Alli, his friends, and his cat, Barb.
