Ariel Scogin is a senior music therapy student at Sam Houston State University. She has studied voice as a mezzo-soprano with Dr. Evangelina Colón and Dr. Emily Howes Heilman. She was founder and president of the a cappella group at SHSU. During her collegiate career, she has been a frequent collaborator with composition students to premiere their new works. Ariel has performed “Dido and Aeneas” under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Renfro and Dr. Mario Aschauer. As part of that opera ensemble, she has participated in a cultural exchange with Kobe College in Hyōgo, Japan.
As a singer/songwriter, Ariel has been involved in the music community of the Huntsville area performing original works and collaborating with other local artists. In addition, she has participated in the debut recital of The Woodlands Chamber Music Project. Her professional affiliations include Sigma Alpha Iota and the student branch of the Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association.
Giselle is currently obtaining a degree of Music Education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She has competed in several competitions such as the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Greater Houston Association of Teachers of Singing, and Sam Houston State University’s Annual Art Song Competition. In 2016, Giselle studied abroad in Lucca, Italy at the Accademia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti Vocal Training Intensive Program, and was able to perform in many places throughout the area including Giacomo Puccini’s countryside home, This past summer, Giselle was a part of the Varna International Opera Academy and had roles in shows that included L’enfant et les sortiléges, Street Scene and La Rondine.
Sarah Lester is a mezzo-soprano, and a recent graduate from Sam Houston State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in All-Level Choral. As a member of the Sam Choral Educators, she volunteered at concerts, contests, and events for various school districts in the greater Houston area. She was also heavily involved in the choral program at SHSU, performing in many large works such as Carmina Burana and The Creation, as well as smaller chamber groups as well. In addition to her involvement in the SHSU choral program, Sarah has also participated in the debut of The Woodlands Chamber Music Project. Sarah is currently in her first year of teaching, serving as the head choral director at Brabham Middle School in Willis, Texas.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time at home with her family; she and her husband have a 5-year-old son, Adam, and are expecting their first baby girl this July; they also share the home with their four spoiled dogs. Sarah and her family currently reside in Tomball, Texas.
